THINGS ARE HAPPENING…

Every year, the elders of the church meet for a one day  vision casting/planning retreat.  We spend time praying and planning the direction of the church for  the upcoming year.  We met this past month and wanted to share several issues we discussed.

As an aside, we reviewed a plan from two years ago and were greatly encouraged to find over 90% of the action steps have been accomplished. We are virtually where we wanted to be at this time. Together, we rejoice that our leadership, staff, and volunteers have accomplished what we set out to do with the indescribable help of God.

The first item of news is we have a four-month rental agreement with a family from the Scranton, PA area for the 2nd parsonage in the back corner of the parking lot. Stephen and Kristen Hopkins and their  four children will move in this week.  Stephen will pastor a church in downtown Pittsburgh.  The parsonage will serve as a transition for them as they hope to find a home to purchase by the beginning of July.

Second, despite the difficult economic times, we determined  that  we should move forward with the  expansion of the sanctuary. We are still welcoming in new families each week and are running out of room even with two services.  We are in the process of accepting bids for the expansion which will be reviewed in March.  Once this process is done, the church family will be presented with the costs and details of the expansion for a clear picture of the plan.

Finally, we discussed the need to take our vision for  the church, “to help people be committed followers of Jesus Christ” to the next level.  We focused our  time on the biblical truth that God designed the family unit to be the main center of evangelism and discipleship. The church is a supplement to that.  Yet, we are aware that many families do not feel equipped to evangelize or disciple within their own home.  We want to sort out how DAC can come alongside families to help in this vital truth and need. This concept is in its beginning stages and will be the topic of many future discussions.

It is a privilege to serve Christ’s church. We are aware that Christ is in charge, and we are simply servants.  Our prayer and desire is that the people of DAC grow in knowledge and faith. Furthermore, we want to see Christ glorified through all of us  so that many may be saved.  To that end, let us join together in this common venture and depend upon Him for all good things.

Blessings,
The Elders (Mike Brownfield,  Chick Flora,  Ken Fraser,  Jack Grunden,  Chuck Hahn,  Michael Krynicki,  Bob Noble,  Scott Prentice )
