Dominican Republic
What can I say? How in the world can words sum up all we saw and experienced on our 8-day mission trip to the Dominican Republic? We worked in a village full of trash, deplorable living conditions, malnourished children and animals, and people overflowing with laughter and joy!
The first goal of the trip was to lead a daily KID’S CAMP where the children learned a story from the Bible, sang songs, and made a craft that coincided with the theme of the day. The second goal was to help construct an 8-foot wall made of concrete blocks to encompass the school which plans to open in the Fall of this year. The third and most important goal was to work with the community people of the village to share the love of Jesus Christ even through language barriers. It was incredible to see how God works through people!
During our trip, we stayed in a gated campground with beautiful landscaping, exquisite buildings, and a large swimming pool located about 20 minutes from the village where we served. We were fortunate on the days when there was water and electricity. For about a total of two days, the water didn’t flow in the sinks or toilets due to a broken water pump. One day there wasn’t any electricity, but nobody complained! These small inconveniences were subtle reminders that we were there to serve and not to be served. It’s amazing how the Lord works!
There will be more opportunities for you to participate in a trip like this to the Dominican Republic in July 2009 and beyond. For more information, please contact the church office or Barb Schworm at 724.352.1473.
COMING SOON: You will receive a newsletter in your email containing other testimonies of those who participated on the trip. There will also be other interesting information about what is happening around the world through this and other mission endeavors. You will want to check it out!
Blessings,
Scott Prentice
