Are You Ready?
Wednesday, January 14th, 2009
It’s certain. He’s coming. It’s been decided and there’s no turning back. (No, I’m not speaking of Barack Obama). HE is Jesus! He’s coming and God has said so. It is an event that will be unparalleled in history. It is certain – we will see Him! Are you ready?
Our teacher on Wednesday nights through the fall and now into winter has been Jim Brumbaugh. He has taught far deeper on end times prophecy then anyone I have ever heard. During his class, I have seen people’s heads spin around, eyes bulge out, and steam come out from their ears all because Jim has given us so much biblical information to digest. Jim has done a superb job.
In considering Jim’s teaching, someone in the office said, “So, are we ready? If Jesus is coming and it could be any time now, are we ready to meet him?” I thought, “What would it mean to be ready?” So I decided to follow up Jim’s class with a class that holds up the mirror of Scripture to see if we reflect the kind of people who will be welcomed by Jesus when He does come. That mirror is 1 John.
1 John has a lot to say about what it looks like to be a Christian: not be persistent in sin, not lusting after the world, loving your brother in Christ, obeying God’s commands, and so on. The key verses are 1 John 2:28-29: “And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears we may have confidence and not shrink from Him in shame at His coming. If you know that He is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of Him.” (ESV)
Jesus will appear. How will He find you?
I will begin teaching about being ready for Christ’s imminent return on Wednesday, February 4th at 6:30. Even if you haven’t attended Jim’s class, come and find out what it means to be ready for his return. Bring your children or grandchildren. We have a wonderful program for children running at the same time. You can expect coffee, an open Bible, and friends. I look forward to preparing with you for Christ’s return.
Blessings,
Mike
