Christmas Faith

Seeing is believing – we hear it all the time and it makes sense. At the beginning of the football season, every major sports’ show and website were saying how my beloved Cleveland Browns were finally poised to reach the elite heights of football. A very good team going deep in the playoffs. I said, “I’ll believe it when I see it.” This comes from years of dashed hopes. It’s hardened me to possibilities. Well, clearly the experts were wrong. My faith in the Browns took a nose-dive into reality. They stink!
To have faith, many people must see “who” or in “what” they are asked to place their faith. In the Christmas story, we have many wonderful examples of faith being lived out. Mary, the teenage village girl, is visited by the angel Gabriel and is told she will have a baby – the very Son of God. More than that, she will remain untouched – a virgin. Mary believes. That’s faith! Joseph, her fiance, has a dream and is told the same story. He wakes up and believes. That’s faith!
Christmas is about faith. It’s about announcements from God and people believing those announcements. It defies science and human experience. It’s believing without seeing. It’s people believing God and trusting Him. Christmas faith is saving faith; and we renew that faith every Christmas season.
Our Christmas Eve services will be about renewing our Christmas faith or finding Christmas faith for the first time. Our services are at 5:00 and 7:00 pm. INVITE friends, coworkers, entire families or whole neighborhoods. Invite them to a night of faith; a night celebrating the supernatural events of Christmas and saying “yes” to faith.
We will have cookies and Christmas punch after each service. Traditionally, the 5:00pm service is full to overflowing. In order to make room for new guests, if it is possible for you and doesn’t interrupt family plans, please consider attending the 7:00pm service.
Christmas faith is shown in Mary’s final words to the angel Gabriel: “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38 ESV) We look forward to celebrating this special evening with you, your friends and your family.
Blessings, Pastor Mike
