Small Groups – A Much Closer Look

Here are some specific questions you may have concerning our SMALL GROUP strategy. Check them out and then feel free to ask any other questions on your mind!

WHAT IS A SMALL GROUP?
Small Groups are groups of up to six married couples or up to eight individuals (or a combination of both married and singles up to 12 people) that meet 2 or 3 times a month in someone’s home for food, fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. They are for adults of all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity.

IS CHILDCARE PROVIDED FOR EACH GROUP MEETING?
The church offers to reimburse for babysitters as needed for each group meeting in homes.

WHEN AND WHERE DO GROUPS MEET?
Most of the groups will generally meet in a group member’s home any night of the week. It all depends on what works best for the group!

HOW OFTEN DO SMALL GROUPS MEET?
Most groups will start off by meeting twice a month. Again, it will all depend on the individual group.

HOW LONG DOES A SMALL GROUP LAST?
Small Groups will initially commit to meet for two months as a “Starter Group”. After those first two months, the group members decide if they want to continue meeting together for an additional 16 – 22 months. Therefore, the total duration of a typical Small Group will be between one-and-a-half to two years.

HOW LONG DOES EACH GROUP MEETING LAST?
Each Small Group picks the length of time they will meet. However, most groups will meet for close to two hours.

WHAT HAPPENS AT A GROUP MEETING?
Though each group differs in how they will do things, many groups will have a social time in the beginning. Then they will transition to a time where they discuss a book or Scripture passage they are studying, or the DVD they are watching, and then pray together.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN A GROUP “ENDS” OR “MULTIPLIES?”
During the term of the group, the group leader will train an apprentice to be the leader of the next group. At the end of the group, the leader will take half the current group, and the apprentice will take the other half of the group. Then they will both add more members to their respective new groups, therefore allowing others to join groups with seasoned leaders.

WHAT DO THEY STUDY?
Each group leader picks their own curriculum to study. We will be providing resources and ideas for each group as they get started. One of the primary responsibilities of each group leader will be to select Scripture, books, DVDs, or other resources that will most effectively grow the entire group into stronger followers of Jesus Christ.

Small Groups are a LOT of fun! You will experience life-change through them. Simply reply to this email if you would like to try out a group.

Blessings,
Pastor Scott
